We built Bloom Cycles because tracking your health should feel supportive, not clinical. Today we’re introducing the feature we’re most proud of: Bloom Companion — a conversational AI guide that lives entirely on your phone and helps you understand your cycle, your symptoms, and your body in a way that feels less like filling out a form and more like talking to someone who gets it.
What Bloom Companion Does
Bloom Companion is a unified conversation experience. Instead of tapping through a dozen screens to log how you feel, you just talk — by voice or by text — and Bloom guides you through a gentle, clinician-style check-in. It covers the things that matter: mood, energy, pain, sleep, flow, and anything else on your mind.
- Natural conversation — type or speak, and Bloom responds in real time with streaming replies.
- Voice loop mode — hands-free back-and-forth conversation, perfect for mornings when you’re still in bed or winding down at night.
- Smart gap detection — if you miss a few days, Bloom gently helps you catch up without making you feel behind.
- Topic coverage at a glance — pill-shaped indicators show you which areas of your health you’ve touched on this session.
- Personalized intake prompts — the opening questions adapt to where you are in your cycle and what you’ve shared before.
The AI Features, Explained
Under the hood, Bloom Cycles uses a large language model to power several features that work together:
- Health Chat — ask Bloom anything about your cycle, fertility, or symptoms and get a thoughtful, personalized answer grounded in your own logged data.
- Interview Engine — the guided check-in that powers Bloom Companion, designed to feel like a conversation rather than a questionnaire.
- Insight Summaries — Bloom reads across your recent entries and surfaces patterns you might have missed, in plain language.
- Intent Classification — when you ask a question, Bloom figures out whether you’re looking for tracking help, health information, or emotional support, and responds accordingly.
Here’s the Part That Matters Most: Nothing Leaves Your Phone
Menstrual health data is some of the most sensitive information you have. We believe you should never have to trade your privacy for a useful app. So we made a choice that most AI apps don’t: every bit of AI processing in Bloom Cycles runs directly on your device.
No OpenAI. No Anthropic. No Google. No cloud inference of any kind. When you chat with Bloom Companion, your words are processed by a language model running locally on your iPhone, accelerated by Apple’s Metal GPU framework through a highly optimized llama.cpp backend. The model file lives on your device. The inference happens on your device. The response is generated on your device.
What this means in practice:
- Your cycle data is never uploaded to an AI service. Not for training, not for inference, not ever.
- Bloom Companion works offline. On a plane, in a basement, in a country with spotty service — it just works.
- There’s no server log of your conversations. Because there’s no server.
- No third party — including us — can read your chats with Bloom. We literally cannot, because they never leave your phone.
Why We Built It This Way
Running a capable language model on a phone is hard. It took months of work on model compression, memory management, and GPU optimization to make it fast enough to feel conversational. We could have shipped a cloud-based version in a weekend. We didn’t, because we think the tradeoff isn’t worth it — not for this kind of data, not for our users.
You shouldn’t have to choose between powerful AI and private health data. With Bloom Companion, you don’t.
Try It Today
Bloom Companion is rolling out now in the latest version of Bloom Cycles. Open the app, tap the Companion tab, and say hello. We think you’ll feel the difference right away.
